1. Call us first!
2. Our visit is no-obligation, and there is no fee for our assesment as long as the home is in Durham Region. (There is a nominal fee for travel outside of Durham Region.)
3. Don't throw anything away! What has value and is saleable is always the most interesting aspect at our sales.
4. Don't waste your time and energy donating items before the sale. Any items left unsold at the end can be donated, and if we sell it all, any charity of your choice will gladly accept a cash donation. Durham Region Estate Sales and Services proudly supports local non-profit reegistered charities.
5. Isolate important family documents and photographs the family is intending to keep. We will also set aside anything we uncover in our "digs".
6. We will organize your home prior to the sale, and set up the inventory as if it were a retail store, with our staging and presentation. Save yourself the time and stress, and let us do the work.
7. We prefer to accept sales based on the items in the home, as this is how we estimate our potential commission. Please be very clear with us what the family is intending to keep and remove from the home prior to the sale. If necessary, we can secure items you are keeping in an area of the home that is not accessible during the sale.
8. Let us help you determine the best way to achieve your goals and meet your schedules. We are extremely flexible and will work hard to meet and exceed your expectations.

Shopping at one of our Estate sales often means finding something you didn't even know you needed.
Sure, there is almost always a few good items that you could update your home, cottage, or dorm room with, but there is also an abundance of opportunities to be found as well.
In this economy, people are looking for more ways to earn extra income, and the re-sale market can provide a good source of $$$.
Buying and selling online is "easy". If you have a computer, or even just a very smart phone, you're well on your way. You also will need to know how to buy "low" so you can sell "high". This requires a bit of research, time, diligence, and consistency, and again, all of the information you need to begin is available online. There are apps for that, and numerous websites devoted to the "how to" of re-selling new and used items successfully.
Here are few of my own tips to get you started.
1. Buy things you love, but won't mind parting with down the road. This means you get to enjoy the item as part of your own "collection", and still feel good about mailing it off when it sells.
2. Find a "niche" or specialty catagory to help others find you more easily when your items are up for sale.
3. Take advantge of all the free social media platforms to help you advertsie your items for sale, i.e. twitter, instagram, facebook, etc. Use lots of #tags, and pictures to help you describe the item to potential buyers.
4. Look for treasures that fit withiin your niche, but don't limit yourself. Adding variations of a theme are always good.
5. Keep your eyes open for bonus rounds. Many items at our sales are often brand new in box, still with tags on, and these are quite easy to re-sell quickly at a profit. Use those apps, and see what we mean!

The first question most people ask when they walk in the front door of one of our Estate Sales is, "Who died?"
The answer, 50% ish of the time, is "No One!"
Of course, discretion and privacy will always wrap any answer we do give, but the reality is is that many of our clients are homeowners who have decided to downsize to a smaller home. This may be due to retirement, divorce, or debt, but they are alive, and may just be at the sale, helping out shoppers and staff!
Our Estate Sales are designed to sell off a large portion (or all) of a home’s contents quickly, so that the next stage in a person's life can begin.
We sell an all-encompassing range of possessions, from the cheapest (used board games and towels) to the most expensive (antique sterling silver, cars, and high-end furniture). What is junk to one person may be a gem to another (folk art, obscure collectibles, a vintage 60s miniskirt, out-of-date travel guidebooks, etc.)

But - if the thought of letting things go - of selling your prized possessions and collections and clutter and stuff - gives you cause to pause, or if you are counting on the proceeds of the sale to retire in Bali, or if you want to sell it all so you can just buy more, or if you really just can't imagine your used paint ladder selling for less than the original retail sales price, please be sure to ask Lisa about what the realistic expectations of an Estate, Content, or Moving Sale really are.
We are motivated sales people who work hard to ensure that at the end of the sale we have sold the items that you and/or your family don't need anymore. We know what the current market conditions are for re-sale items. We take a percentage of the total sales, so we want to sell what we can for as much as possible. We also know that in most cases, second hand items are not going to sell for anything close to brand new retail value. We will ensure that all antiques and collectibles are researched so that even though they are "old" and "dated", you get the best possible revenue for anything and everything.
Many of the shoppers at our sales are buying so that they can in turn resell at a profit, but we take this into consideration with all evaluations, and price everything fairly and equitably. Unless you have extremely rare and highly collectible items, it is unlikely that you will be able to live the life of the rich and famous after the sale, unless you already can.

I made these Resolutions on New Years Eve, and today I thought I'd check in and see how I am doing.
I will do more (and everything I can) to avoid landfill - ongoing - taking lunch in washable containers with me every day really helps
I will keep my car clean(er) - my on the road all the time office needs a scrub!!! but at least it's not piled high...
I will (try hard) to walk the dogs every day - even when it is too cold - struggling with the cold...
I will do more yoga - this one is easy - loving the "hot" classes this time of year
I will do more DRESS social media work - Jan 8th update, 1st of the year... well, will keep trying
I will cook from scratch as often as possible to avoid pre-packaged food - this is tough with crazy schedules, but we are 7/8 so far
I will take my vitamins and not forget - ummm....
I will write in my diary EVERY day - or get caught up the next
I will take more pictures of family and friends and store them safely - my new phone has an awesome camera, so grateful for that
I will help you and your fmily any way I can !!! - another easy one, give call me and see...

Storage lockers - a multi-billion dollar enterprise.
We have too much stuff, and no room in our home lives to keep it, so we pay someone else to hold it for us.
I had to rent one - in between one house and another. All of my beloved possessions and household items were in boxes, stacked high, and very difficult to access. In the short term, while waiting for the renovation to be completed, anything we needed on a daily basis was re-purchased. When we were finally able to move into our home, having doubles of many things made for a great garage sale! But really?
Storage units are a great help for short term situations, but I quitte often hear about people who have had the same things in the same storage unit for years and years, and the monthly fees keep going up, and they keep paying.
This monthly bill is reminder that, in many cases, we just have too much "stuff"!
If you have one, and really dislike that reminder, try asking this...
Should your storage facility have a fire, what would you want saved from your unit?
If you can't answer that question, it's time to consider getting rid of it all. If you can answer, bring it home today, and let the rest of it go. When you think about it, paying rent on stuff we really do not treasure is absurd, and very expensive. Perhaps you are hanging on to things from the past, an inheritance, or boxes of unknowns from your grandparents basement. Maybe you use storage units because there is no room for this stuff at your home.
Maybe we need to ask ourselves... is it really worth it.

The "what do I do with all this stuff" dilemma.
It can really be over-whelming, and sometimes it seems like the only way out is to pack it all up and head to the nearest donation center. But wait! Consider first that there are some other options. Donations are good - for lots of reasons, but in today's economy, who couldn't use a little extra in the wallet.
Before you pack it all in, take a deep breath, and check out this article on WorthPoint. Lots of great information and options!
Household items, textiles, kitchenware, small glassware, toys, paperback and hardcover books will sell at your indoor content sale. So will large pieces of furniture, art, antiques, and lots of everything else. Having a successful content sale in your home is a heck of a lot easier then you might think, and you will be amazed at what people will pay very good money for. Hiring a company like ours makes sense, and at the end of the day, you have money in your pocket to do with what you like.
